Yorkshire Terriers - Keeping Your Yorkie Well Groomed.

Brushing each day if your Yorkie has a heavy coat with a soft brush keeps your Yorkies hair from a tangled mess, otherwise I'm absolutely sure you'll be hugging with your small companion one or more times a day and you can start brushing him then. Showering your Yorkie is extremely important to maintaining healthy flowing coat. The bath water should warm and ensure you have the shampoo, conditioner and towel, toothbrush and toothpaste and scissors prepared before you put your terrier in the bath. Wash your Yorkies body gently from top to bottom which should help forestall creating tangles while making sure you do not get any of the suds in their eyes. And remember to wash and rinse again because if any shampoo is left on your Yorkies coat it will cause aridity.

Whether your yorkie has a long or short coat, a regular grooming schedule is an absolute must. That fine hair of theirs will become tangled and knotted in virtually no time. I keep my yorkie cut reasonably short as she doesn't enjoy being groomed and thus grooming her isn't fun for me. She is pretty much a tomboy and a shorter cut fits her character also. Grooming supplies for your yorkie should ideally include : dog shampoo and conditioner, hair-dryer ( with a low setting ), brush ( metal with teeth spaced broader on one side and narrower on the other ), brush ( with metal teeth with rounded ends ), and a de-matter. It's important not to use medicated shampoo unless your vet has prescribed it. I find it best to take my yorkie into a confined space like the rest room after her bath. Trimming the hair around their ears with scissors is the very next thing to be done as it is simple to chop when the hair is wet. There are lots of doggie toothpastes on today's market brushing your terriers teeth will help forestall doggie breath too. If you would rather have your Yorkie professionally groomed from top to bottom that may be a completely good choice to consider.
