Yorkshire Terriers - Keeping Your Yorkie Well Groomed.

How shortly should you start grooming your Yorkshire terrier? At least 2 times a week, because Yorkies have such a specific coat that correct grooming is necessary for their overall healthy appearance.

Brushing each day if your Yorkie has a heavy coat with a soft comb keeps your Yorkies hair from a tangled mess, otherwise I'm sure you'll be hugging with your tiny companion at least one time a day and you can start brushing him then. Showering your Yorkie is critical to maintaining healthy flowing coat. Wash your Yorkies body softly from top to bottom that will help forestall making tangles while making sure you do not get any of the suds in their eyes.

Towel dry carefully by patting their coat and not rubbing because rubbing will cause tangling. Whether your yorkie has a long or short coat, a regular grooming schedule is a total must. That fine hair of theirs will become tangled and knotted in virtually no time. If daily combing and brushing your yorkie isn't your cup of tea, consider a shorter cut. I keep my yorkie cut reasonably short as she doesn't enjoy being groomed and thus grooming her isn't fun for me. She is pretty much a tomboy and a shorter cut fits her personality also. A yorkie with a short coat does need upkeep. She should be washed each week or two and brushed and brushed at that point.

I find using the kitchen sink is the best spot for my small yorkies bath. I am getting her coat awfully wet and then using a large amount of shampoo, I gradually work the lather into her skin. Employ a dog shampoo that's acceptable for your yorkies skin type. Don't use shampoo on your yorkies face unless it is totally mandatory as it is critical to keep the shampoo out of her eyes. Check their ears if they need any ear powder this is a nice time to use it which will allow you to scrub their ears more efficiently.
